Preparing for Nationals

I realize as you read this it is only a few days until the Nationals begin.  However, as I write this it is 2 weeks away. Over the last few months, my time on a court has been spent teaching other people how to teach pickleball.  Working on my own game has not been a priority for me.  I am hoping to change that after this week.

preparing for nationals

As I write this I am in the passenger seat heading to Wilmington, NC for a PPR workshop. I’ll be honest with you, though I have spent a lot of time on pickleball courts recently…I have not been practicing or playing.

In addition, my schedule has been a bit hectic…flying or driving from city to city to offer PPR training. Because I have been traveling so much lately, I have been focusing on my fitness.  In addition to building endurance, I am working to improve my body mechanics.  In my hotel room, I do workouts early in the morning, to improve my movement and stability.   I remind myself all the time I don’t need a big gym to work my butt off.

time to play

Fortunately, I have a break in my schedule for a few days the week before Nationals begins.  I have a friend coming to spend nationalsa few days with me.  I plan to be on the court as much as I can.  My goal is to hit a lot of balls and play a lot of points. Before a big tournament, I will use drills to warm up but I spend the majority of my time playing points or games.  I find the more time I can spend on the court with players that will push me, the better.

One adjustment I expect I will have to make once I get to California is related to the ball.  The ball is just a bit slower is South Carolina than I anticipate in the desert.  But working through that will have to wait until I get on site.

Excited

I am so excited to get back on the court and get ready for Nationals. Playing at Indian Wells is one of my favorite things. I can’t wait to see a pickleball tournament played at this venue.  I hope to see you there!
