Rules For An Erne – Pickleball Mini-Lesson with Sarah Ansboury

Today we will cover Rules for an Erne!

To correctly and successfully complete an Erne you must pass over the non-volley line and make contact before you clear the net.

The order is important because if you clear the net and then make contact you lose the point. Likewise, if you miss the ball and clear the net you will lose the point.

Remember not to touch the net or the line, if you step on the line on your way over the non-volley zone you can be called for a foot fault. You also need to make sure both feet are outside the non-volley zone before you strike the ball.

Erne Drill

A great practice drill to set up outside the non-volley zone and get comfortable with the motion, the footwork needed and striking the ball from that angle. With a partner take turns, start slow and work up to a game play situation.
