My Pickleball Life and a PPR Update

Some of you may have heard about our big move!  In case you haven’t today I will update you on my pickleball life and provide more details about the PPR.

new home base

Linh and I have been traveling for over two years now with our boys. We have been able to see this country one pickleball court at a time.  It has been a wonderful journey, and we have had the opportunity to see parts of this country that many will never visit.  But now we have decided to make a home base in beautiful Hilton Head South Carolina.

This all started with the PPR…the new Professional Pickleball Registry.  (More on the PPR below.)  Making Hilton Head our home base also has given us the opportunity to take a position at Palmetto Dunes Tennis and Pickleball in Hilton Head as well. I will be the Pickleball Touring Professional and Director of Pickleball Instruction.

Palmetto Dunes Pickleball

pprWe now have 8 pickleball courts at Palmetto Dunes with the intention of adding 8 more. This will afford us the opportunity to host tournaments out of this location, as well as Ansboury Academies. Palmetto Dunes offers us the destination type location so many of our students have requested.  The facility offers restaurants, kayaking, fishing, golf, biking and so much more.

We are very much looking forward to creating some amazing pickleball vacations for you! Our first Academy will be this fall …so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

PPR

The Professional Tennis Registry is a worldwide, coaching organization with over 16,000 members. They recently created a separate nonprofit organization the PPR and brought me in to start the pickleball education. Initially, we are focusing our education in two areas:

  1. We will be certifying pickleball instructors worldwide. This process will involve a testing process similar to the PTR which includes an online test, an 8-hour workshop, and skills testing. This training is geared to 4.0+ players that intend to offer teaching and coaching services around the world.  To see the current schedule of certification locations, click here.
  2. We also will be offering a program for the many pickleball ambassadors around the world.  At first, we intended to call this program the Ambassador Program but realized this could easily be confused with the USAPA program of the same name.  In addition, we have gotten lots of inquiries from people outside of the US, as well as physical education teachers, and the like. So we are calling it the  PPR Affiliate Membership.  We are offering the Pickleball Essentials Workshop geared toward the thousands of people that introduce pickleball to new players around the world.
The Coming Months

If you looked at any of the schedules above, you’ll note that we will still be doing quite a bit of traveling over the next few months.  But we really believe that the PPR will not only grow our pickleball community but will also bridge the gap which exists in many areas between the tennis and pickleball worlds today.

Where Does Power Come From In Pickleball - Tip

Where Does Power Come From in Pickleball?

Hint: It’s Not Your Arms. Let’s clear this up right away—power doesn’t come from your hands or arms. Swinging harder doesn’t automatically mean you’re hitting faster, stronger, or better. In fact, that mindset often does more harm than good. In pickleball, we separate power and control by the body:Power comes

Disguising Your Shot: The Power of Direction Change

Last week, we talked about cutting off the corners to create a more offensive dink. Now, let’s take that concept a step further—redirecting the ball to control the point. Why Does This Matter? The more I move my opponent, rather than moving myself, the more control I have. The goal
